OUR SYNAGOGUE

Our Synagogue has recently celebrated its 80th birthday and following our upgrade to becoming a full member of the US, the Shul has been handed its greatest opportunity in recent years to really grow as a community.

As evident in the photos, our shul has a very traditional décor and can comfortably seat more then 200 people. Our modern ‘Central Bimah’ style ensures a more inclusive style service as well as a great improvement in the Chazan’s sound projection to the ladies. The atmosphere in the shul during the service is always one of inclusiveness and warmth. Page numbers are often announced to help congregants keep in touch with the services.

Next door we have a large hall which can comfortably seat more than 100 people, complete with a nice high ceiling. This room is often used for our Kiddushim, events and simchos.

OUR RABBI

This Yom Tov Rabbi Avromi Kahan will have been at Highams Park & Chingford for 15 years!

Rabbi Kahan spent many years studying for Rabbinical Semichah first in Yeshivah Sharei Torah, Kollel Zichron Shaul before completing his Semichah under the leadership of Rabbi Refoel Godlewski of the then Achdut Torah Centre Ilford.

He is also a Senior Rabbinical Inspector for the London Beth Din ensuring top quality Kashrus at Bakeries, Restaurants and Food Manufacturers across London and beyond.

Rabbi Kahan believes that 'every member deserves to feel part of everything that a Shul and a community has to offer...'

Our Rabbi is married to Ruth who is dedicated to helping him to ensure that everyone feels accepted and relaxed in our shul.

Rabbi Kahan also has 9 'lively' kids, including 2 married.

OUR CHAIRMAN

Our Chairman Steven Strum is a full – time accountant who’s also very busy looking after his own family. We are however really blessed in this community, that Steven has not only taken on the mantle of being our chairman but is also officially our FR.

Steven very much has his finger on the pulse of this community. After many years when Steven had stepped aside from communal involvement at Board level, he has risen in a very big way to the challenge of running this community in an extremely sensitive and caring way together with our Rabbi and board. He has also in recent times successfully overseen the communities status upgrade to a full US constitute synagogue and has a great rapport with all of the US personal.
